Sexual Abuse in Washington
It is important in the battle against childhood sexual abuse to take individual pedophiles to court and to make sure they are punished to the full extent of the law. It is never too late to come forward with sexual abuse allegations. Washington has a very compassionate statute of limitations for victims of sexual abuse. Whether you were recently abused or the abuse took place decades ago, you have a right for accountability, justice and, most importantly, closure. We will aggressively pursue the rights of the abused, while at the same time acknowledging the discreet and sensitive nature of sexual abuse cases.
Our experience in complex sexual abuse cases includes:
- Recovered $14.15 million for 24 former students at Briscoe Memorial School, a Catholic school and orphanage in Seattle against the Seattle Archdiocese and Christian Brothers.
- Recovered approximately $30 million in settlements for victims of childhood sexual abuse perpetrated by the employees of religious institutions.
- We have recently received a $3 million verdict and close to $8 million total for the victims of sexual abuse.
- $4.2 million for sexual abuse perpetrated by a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the Mormon Church). The case is presently being appealed by the Church to the Washington State Supreme Court. The verdict is believed to be one of the largest verdicts against a religious organization for the sexual abuse of children in Washington State.
- School district failed to control a student with dangerous behaviors that led to sexual abuse of four students resulting in a confidential seven-figure settlement.
- Obtained a $1.1 million settlement on behalf of a victim of childhood sexual abuse by a Christian Brother employed as a principal at a Catholic grade school in Seattle. This is believed to be the largest single-victim, Catholic clergy settlement against the Archdiocese of Seattle.
